Whenever a player performs explosive actions, because the demand for energy is high, energy stores are rapidly depleted, muscles are damaged, and waste is produced that can cause further damage if it is not removed. Strategies that accelerate the regeneration process should, therefore, form part of every player’s daily routine.
When highly talented players play against each other, the margin between winning and losing is small. Nutrition will improve both health and performance, so the food choices made will affect how well players train and perform in games.
There are many ways to accelerate the recovery process, but making recovery a habit will undoubtedly help to both optimise performance and reduce the risk of injury by ensuring the body is always in a state of homeostasis (balance).
In a well-structured training programme, almost every injury is avoidable. When an injury does occur and the cause of the injury has been investigated, it is important to focus on safely rehabilitating the player to prevent a re-injury.
